About the Role
Baranta seeks a Trade Compliance Analyst to join our trade consulting practice, supporting clients with USMCA qualification analysis, customs compliance program development, HTS classification research, and regulatory advisory services.
This role is perfect for someone who loves research, analysis, and solving complex trade puzzles. You’ll work on diverse projects for clients ranging from manufacturers qualifying products under USMCA to e-commerce companies navigating FDA import requirements. Your analysis and recommendations will directly impact clients’ duty costs, compliance programs, and supply chain strategies.
What You’ll Do
USMCA Qualification & Analysis
- RVC Calculations - Calculate Regional Value Content under net cost and transaction value methods
- Product-Specific Rules - Apply tariff shift, RVC, and other PSR requirements to determine qualification
- Cost Analysis - Review bill of materials, supplier quotes, and cost data to assess USMCA eligibility
- Supplier Declarations - Prepare templates and guidance for obtaining origin certifications from suppliers
- Documentation - Create qualification analyses documenting methodology, calculations, and conclusions
- Certification Review - Validate USMCA certifications of origin for accuracy and completeness
HTS Classification Research
- Product Classification - Research and determine HTS codes for new products using GRI methodology
- Ruling Research - Search CBP rulings, Explanatory Notes, and court decisions for precedent
- Classification Analysis - Document classification rationale with supporting technical data
- Binding Ruling Requests - Draft ruling requests for submission to CBP
- Classification Reviews - Audit client classifications for accuracy and optimization opportunities
Customs Compliance Programs
- Program Development - Design customs compliance programs, procedures, and internal controls
- SOPs & Documentation - Create standard operating procedures for classification, valuation, entry filing
- Training Materials - Develop client training presentations and reference guides
- Risk Assessments - Identify compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Audit Preparation - Prepare clients for CBP focused assessments and verifications
Regulatory Research & Advisory
- Regulation Monitoring - Track Federal Register, CBP guidance, and regulatory developments
- Agency Requirements - Research FDA, USDA, EPA, CPSC, and other regulatory requirements
- Client Advisories - Communicate regulatory changes and impacts to clients
- Import Feasibility - Assess regulatory requirements and barriers for new products or markets
- Compliance Issues - Research solutions to specific client compliance challenges
Client Project Support
- Consulting Projects - Support trade compliance consulting engagements
- Client Reporting - Prepare analysis reports, presentations, and recommendations
- Audit Support - Assist clients responding to CBP audits, CF-28s, verifications
- Strategic Planning - Contribute to clients’ long-term trade compliance strategies
Who You Are
Your Background
You have a bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field, plus 2-4 years of hands-on experience in trade compliance, customs, or international trade. You understand USMCA/NAFTA rules of origin, HTS classification concepts, and customs regulations.
You may have worked in a customs brokerage, freight forwarder, corporate compliance department, consulting firm, or related role. You’re pursuing or considering the customs broker license exam or CCS designation to advance your expertise.
