About the Role
Baranta is seeking an experienced Licensed Customs Broker to join our growing team in Calexico, CA. This role is critical to our mission of delivering expert customs clearance and trade compliance services to manufacturers, e-commerce companies, and logistics providers importing into the United States.
As a Licensed Customs Broker at Baranta, you’ll work directly with diverse clients to ensure compliant and efficient import operations. You’ll leverage your expertise in HTS classification, USMCA qualification, customs valuation, and regulatory compliance to solve complex trade challenges while building strong client relationships.
What You’ll Do
Import Clearance & Entry Management
- Review import shipments and prepare customs entries (Type 01, 03, 06, 07, etc.)
- Classify products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) using GRI methodology
- Determine customs values applying transaction value and other valuation methods
- Calculate duties, fees, and taxes accurately
- File entries via ACE/ABI and monitor clearance status
- Resolve customs holds, exams, and documentation requests
USMCA & FTA Compliance
- Analyze products for USMCA qualification under applicable rules of origin
- Calculate Regional Value Content (RVC) and apply product-specific rules
- Review and validate USMCA certifications of origin
- Advise clients on FTA eligibility (USMCA, Chile, Peru, Korea, etc.)
- Prepare documentation supporting preferential treatment claims
- Assist clients through CBP USMCA verifications
Client Advisory & Relationship Management
- Serve as primary customs expert for assigned client portfolio
- Communicate proactively about shipment status, issues, and regulatory changes
- Provide strategic guidance on duty optimization, compliance programs, and supply chain decisions
- Conduct client training on customs topics and import best practices
- Build trusted advisor relationships through responsive, expert service
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all entries comply with CBP regulations and client-specific requirements
- Monitor for regulatory changes affecting clients (tariff updates, Section 301, agency requirements)
- Identify compliance risks and implement corrective actions
- Respond to CBP post-entry reviews, CF-28/29 requests, and audits
- Maintain thorough documentation supporting entry decisions
- Prepare informed compliance letters and protests when needed
Who You Are
Your Background
You’re a Licensed US Customs Broker with 3-5+ years of hands-on brokerage experience. You have strong technical knowledge of HTS classification, customs valuation, USMCA and other free trade agreements, and CBP procedures. You’re comfortable with customs brokerage software and ACE/ABI filing systems.
You may have experience in specific industries (automotive, electronics, medical devices, consumer goods, food/FDA) or specialized areas (Section 301 tariffs, antidumping/countervailing duty, FTA compliance). You’re committed to ongoing learning as customs regulations constantly evolve.
